Cities Counties and Schools Partnership Award
"Recognizing excellence in building communities through collaboration"

The "Cities Counties and Schools Partnership Award” recognizes communities that are doing one or more of the following:

 Working together on collaborative projects between, cities, and schools, counties and schools, cities and counties or all three jurisdictions

 Utilizing cooperative, cross-jurisdictional services to enhance the quality of life for community residents.

 Working collaboratively to establish healthy and vibrant communities and create a culture of cooperation.

How to apply

1. Secure an application for the annual awards program from the relevant association -- League, CSAC, CSBA. For example, in a collaborative effort that involves the city, a school district and the county, the city would apply through the League, the school district would apply through CSBA or the county would apply through CSAC.

2. Indicate on the application that you want it also considered for the CCS Partnership Award.

Selection Criteria

Projects being considered for the CCS Partnership award will have the following characteristics:

  • Exhibit significant collaboration between local governments.
  • May include private and non-profit partners
  • Exhibit leveraging of community resources.
  • Show demonstrable results.
  • Offer potential for replication in other communities.
  • Will have the potential to continue improving the quality of life.
  • Demonstrate sustainability.

Possible Project Areas

Entries may include, but are not limited to, collaborative projects in the following areas:

  • Youth development and education, including mentoring, after school programs, childcare, preschool, educational support systems, etc.
  • Urban design to enable effective joint-use of community resources
  • Capital improvement and infrastructure projects which enhance quality of life and help create vibrant communities
  • Safety
  • Affordable housing
  • Recreational and leisure opportunities
  • Jobs/economic development
  • Civic participation in community issues, including voting, leadership development and youth involvement in civic affairs
  • Volunteerism
  • Collaborative land use planning, e.g. general plans, school siting, housing, and/or commercial development
  • Health, including facilities, programs and services
  • Transportation systems
  • Strategic plan/program resulting in environmental balance and/or conservation of land resources
  • Application of "smart growth” practices and/or sustainable land use policies

Award Presentations

Awards will be given at the annual conferences for each of the three associations who comprise the Cities Counties and Schools Partnership:

The Award-winning programs will appear in regular publications of the CCS Partnership and on the Partnership website. In addition, articles and press releases will be written for the League of California Cities Western City magazine; California State Association of Counties California Counties magazine; and California School Boards Association California Schools Magazine. Together, these three prestigious publications reach approximately 10,000 local government representatives and staff monthly.
